oh...and i am anxiously awaiting my next road trip.

at this point i see no reason to ever need a plane unless i am crossing the oceans.

    how boring would that be?

the mississippi river does NOT count as an 'ocean'...

no matter how big it is

Ooh, or maybe a little circle over the ocean, and come back, saying you crossed the ocean

and headed to Michigan last Friday afternoon for the Red Bud National Motocross.

You can check it out on ESPN2 this saturday from noon to 2pm (eastern time). You will prolly see me in the sea of people. I had a white shirt on and some khacki shorts. And a hat. With sunglasses. You cant miss me.

Anyways, after a short little drive up there we find ourselves in South Bend, Indiana. A friend of mine went up there with me...Click here for a link to his webpage... and we both took our bikes so that we could race amatuer day on the saturday before the Pro national.

So we find our rooms at the wonderfully quaint Knights Inn after cruising by the University of Notre Dame. The rooms were ....well they had beds and thats all we were really looking for at that point.

After getting a few hours sleep we wake up to head to the track. After a longass wait at the Dennys diner, we head out. We unload our shit and go sign up. Josh has some problems signing up since he is under 18 and doesnt have a parent with him but about 30 minutes later an older, helmeted rider of 19 years makes an appearence at sign up and gets everything taken care of. :-"

Oh yeah..we met Hanny up there. So Hanny and I get signed up in our spodely class and head back to the truck to get geared up. Its hot as fuck out there by the way and we only have a few minutes before practice gets underway. Add to that the fact that we must push our bikes everywhere and it makes for a tiring day before we even get to race. So we push our bikes across the pits which is a BITCH being that its a national and there are tons of people there.
Oh yeah...and it rained Saturday morning when we were in the room so all of our riding gear got soaked. Talk about nice to put on!

So we get 4 fucking laps of practice and they send us on our way. That is BS. 4 laps??? Fuck that!

Anyways, after Hanny and I are done with practice, Josh goes out. Josh is 17 and a rising star in the off-road community. He is also DAMN fast in motocross and getting even faster. After Hanny and I struggling with the track after our practice, Josh goes out and jumps everything on the first lap and is slicing through the A class riders like a hot knife through butter.

The races start and the pro class is up first. Josh gets a decent start but doesnt really move up any positions and finishes 5th. Not as good as we wouldve liked. After the race however, we find out that his brakes were gone. Anyways, he ends up finishing 3rd overall in the pro class and wins the 16-24 class (however he got docked two positions for riding his bike back to the truck). He makes a little money back for the pro class and gets to go home with some nice red bud hardware.

Mine and Hanny's first moto goes pretty shitty for both of us. We get off the gate ok but a first turn pile up holds us both up.

Hanny gets in front of me and is riding like a bat out of hell. I work my way around him though and take off after some others in the class. Just as I'm cutting to the inside to make a block pass on this one dude, I lose the back end in the 180 and go down. Upon getting up, I drop the bike again and lose a ton of spots. Hanny apparently had major arm pump and didnt do so well either, however he still finished in front of me.

For our second set of moto's, Hanny ditches us and goes back to the room. You can read more about that under his thread in "Motocross Fanatics" titled "Red Bud" or something.

So after a pretty damn impressive fireworks show, Josh and I head back to town and through the local Taco Bell for some fine regional cuisine.

We hit the sack pretty soon afterwards and wake up refreshed for the national on Saturday.

Sunday is pretty cool. RC and Stewart win their respective classes and everyone goes home happy.
Hanny, however, went home happier about an hour earlier than us however to "beat traffic".

So after almost snagging a pair of Tim Ferry's riding pants and seeing Chad Reed in the buff, we get in the truck and start the 12 hour journey home.

3 days, 1476 miles and 5 states later we finally pull back into my driveway at 6am monday morning. Josh still has another 2 hours to get to his house so I offer to let him sleep at my place for a few hours. He says he'll be alright and makes the journey back to his place.

I have tons of video that I uploaded to my PC and will try to make a video of the weekends events at some point. I'll be sure to post it when I do.
